A Hailsham mum has helped put the market town back on top after winning a Sussex and Surrey wide radio competition.

Sam Rogers beat 78 contestants to win the Big Town Showdown competition live on Heart 97-104 Breakfast show presented by Tom, Kaz and Jack.

Mrs Rogers was officially crowned by presenter Jack “The Lad” Hayes during a surprise street party live on the breakfast show.

She was handed a luxury hamper of meats and a spa day for her and a friend.

Her two daughters Maisie and Flo were given two large sacks of presents from Santa.

Mrs Rogers said: “The whole experience was amazing and we will definitely remember it for ever.”

Every morning over the past three months, listeners have been invited to represent their town or village on The Big Town Showdown.

The competition tested general knowledge, quick-thinking and nerve as each contestant tried to answer ten questions in the quickest possible time.

Wrong answers are penalized with ten seconds being added to their final time.

Mrs Rogers took part at the end of November and scored 10 out of 10 in just 32.9 seconds – the fastest ever time in the competition’s history.

Jack The Lad said: “Sam is a single mum to two lovely girls and we knew that she dedicates her life to them.

“We wanted to give something back to her to make sure they all had a fantastic Christmas and a little something extra so she could indulge in some time to herself in the new year.
