A two-course lunch was served, followed by an afternoon of racing, with a charity prize draw and auction.

Mr Hills said: “It was a great afternoon and we are delighted that we were able to raise such a large amount for two fantastic local charities and we would like to thank all our guests for giving so generously.”

A portion of the proceeds went to Paws Animal Sanctuary in the village but the majority went to Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.

Caroline Roberts-Quigley, community fundraiser at Chestnut Tree House, said: “On behalf of the children and families we help, I would like to express sincere thanks to Village House for their kind and generous donation of £1,800.

“We are indeed very grateful for their continued support. It means the world to us and enables us to continue providing our essential services to children with life-shortening conditions and their families.”
