Raid foiled

A YOUNG boy foiled a drugs raid when he answered the door to police just as they were about to smash it down.

Ten officers, many of whom were dressed in protective clothing, raided the house in Tower Road, Lancing, on Tuesday at 7.30am for Operation Rapana.

The officers came equipped with a battering ram and a crowbar and were about to smash down the door when the boy opened it from inside and let them in.

The youngster was reassured before the police searched the house for drugs.

Before the raid, Sergeant Ian Cooke of Adur police said the officers were looking for class A drugs.

But after a thorough search by a search team and sniffer dog, none were found. Some drug paraphernalia was recovered.

Sgt Cooke said a man and a woman, and two children were at home when the police arrived. The couple were arrested in relation to other matters.

This was first drugs raid carried out in Adur for

several months.

The police were unavailable for further comment.
