Raiders Swipe £12,000

POLICE are warning people not to stash cash at home after burglars stole a staggering £12,000 from a Lancing home.

On Friday morning, raiders broke into the back of the house in Grinstead Lane and went through the downstairs rooms, emptying drawers and cupboards.

They struck gold when they found a small, red money box in a set of drawers in a bedroom.

Inside was 12,000 cash and 300 in premium bonds.

The owner of the house said the burglary happened between 9.45am and 11.15am and claimed no-one else was aware that the money was in the house.

But a police spokesman said: "People shouldn't have large amounts of cash like this in the house. The safest places are banks, building societies or safes. The burglar must be thinking how lucky he was."

Police are appealing for information, especially to any business owners who have had customers paying in large amounts of cash, or from banks which have received large deposits recently.
