Southern Rail has warned trains travelling between Three Bridges and Bognor are being forced to run at a reduced speed due to the problem.
A statement on the rail provider’s website said: “Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 20 mins at short notice.”
Network Rail engineers were sent to fix the issue and all lines have been re-opened.
Delays and cancellations are still being reported and disruption is expected to last until 3.15pm.
