A newsletter published by the association warned that there will be no service on many of the routes, and a reduced service on others if the strikes go ahead as planned.

“It is expected that no Southern trains will operate in either direction on several routes including Clapham Junction to Milton Keynes via Kensington Olympia; Dorking to Horsham; Preston Park to Hove; Chichester to Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central and Redhill to Tonbridge. Earlswood, Salfords and Faygate stations will not be served.

“A limited service will operate in both direction between approximately 7.30am and 6.30pm on five routes: London Bridge to East Grinstead; Three Bridges to Chichester via Horsham; Three Bridges to Victoria via Gatwick and Redhill; Brighton to Bognor via Littlehampton and Brighton to Eastbourne via Lewes.”

Southern Rail have strongly advised passengers to travel outside peak times where possible and to avoid travelling on the last trains of the day.

There will be no alternative transport and trains that are running are expected to be extremely busy.

Queuing systems will be in place at many stations that are open, but long waiting times are expected before rail users can board a train.
