Rainbows bring colour to Battle

This is our 10th year of planting our Rainbow flower bed in the Market Square, Battle. Beautiful Battle was formed with a meeting inviting community groups to join them. I had opened 1st Battle Rainbows in October 2003 so went along and asked for a plot for a Rainbow flower bed. They gave us 3 choices but this one in the Market Square was the best for us. It has been brilliant! Our first planting was in June 2005 and was a rainbow of flowers, the same this year. In summer we have had different themes, eg. red, white and blue for the Queen’s Jubilee and red, yellow and blue for the Rainbow 25th Anniversary. We also plant in Autumn for a Spring showing of gorgeous polyanthus. Our plants are supplied by Tim Gowland at Great Park Farm Nursery and we are sponsored by Trevor Henning, a local engineer and friend of Battle District Girlguides.

This year the ten Rainbows, Leaders Violet and Pink, Helpers Ruby and Bronze and parent helper Khaki and son Olive had the happiest planting so far. The girls giggled their way through planting 7 rows of flowers in the shape and colours of the rainbow.
