Rally as council considers Arun housing sites

A PROTEST against plans to earmark areas of Arun for thousands of homes is being held tonight (Wednesday, April 30) ahead of a crunch council meeting.

The Villages Action Group is holding the rally outside the Civic Centre in Maltravers Road, Littlehampton, at 5pm – an hour before the full council meets to approve the housing plans recommended by the local plan sub-committee.

The proposals would earmark Angmering, as well as Barnham, Eastergate and Westergate, for 600 homes and 2,060 homes respectively as part of the council’s local plan.

The protest being held will be attended by Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert.

Campaigners, including Mr Herbert, have argued the housing numbers are excessive for Arun and will turn parts of the district into commuter towns.

Nick Herbert and councillors from Barnham will be addressing the crowd.

Campaigners have called on residents to support the rally by attending.
