Random Friday at De La Warr Pavilion

THE FIRST in a series of "Random Friday" events is being held at the De La Warr Pavilion over the bank holiday weekend.

On Friday, May 22, the building will open late to house music from Same Actor, a London based soundscape artist who uses sitars and other stringed instruments with alternative tunings and unusual rhythms.

T-Toe, an experimental electronica artist from London, will also play along with _minimalVector, stage name of Polish-born, Brighton based Bartosz Dylewski, a VJ who completes the trio providing an evening of alternative culture.

Bars open from 7pm, with drinks promotions running till 8pm.

On Saturday, May 23, a free screening of Whale Rider will be projected onto the outside sea-facing wall of the Pavilion.

Winner of Best Feature Film award at the children's BAFTAs, Whale Rider is a story of the love, rejection and triumph of a young Maori girl, who fights to fulfill a destiny her grandfather refuses to recognize.

Also currently showing in the Pavilion are Susan Collins' Seascape exhibition, using images captured from webcams along the South Coast, and Things Fall Apart, the work of 15 young curators who commissioned new work from local young artists drawing on ideas of fragmentation and disintegration.

Both exhibitions are free to enter and run till Sunday, June 14.
