Piles of wood washed up on Worthing beach at the start of the new year certainly attracted a lot of attention and this article featuring photographs sent in by Herald readers Paul Gordon, Paul Morgan and Meher Salman was the most read on the Shoreham Herald website in January.

Despite a few set backs along the way the cargo of the stricken Ice Prince was eventually cleared from Worthing beach.

February '“ Police arrest man in connection with Shoreham Beach "brothel"

The news that police had uncovered a suspected brothel in Shoreham Beach got hundreds of you clicking on this story to make it the most popular online article in February.

March '“ Calls for action over Lancing cannabis caf saga

When local MP Tim Loughton asked the government to intervene in the long-running stalemate between residents, police and the operators of Lancing's cannabis cafe it became the most popular story of March.

At the time Under Secretary of State at the Home Office, Vernon Coaker MP described the situation as deplorable.

April '“ Schools to close as teachers strike

A planned teachers strike in Mid Sussex had over 4,000 of people logging on in April to see whether their child's school would be affected.

The strike, organised by the National Union of Teachers, was over a proposed pay increase lower than the rate of inflation.

May and June '“ Fundraising tribute to much-loved teacher

The death of popular teacher Anne Woodward led her former pupils from The Towers Convent School, Upper Beeding, to start a fund-raising campaign in her memory.

Mrs Woodward died of a stroke during the Easter holidays and the schoolgirls at The Towers decided to raise money to help other stroke victims.

July '“ Time for Pat to stop patrolling Shoreham road

Lollipop lady Pat Strudwick's retirement after 19 years led more than 1,000 people to log on to read her story.

August '“ Police apologise over hardcore porn blunder

A police printing error which directed Haywards Heath residents to a hardcore porn website this story became the most popular web story of August.

Police apologised for the error and Inspector Ed Henriet of Haywards Heath police, said the design mistake was put right within an hour.

September '“ Lancing woman's daily struggle with Fibromyalgia

When Fibromyalgia sufferer Tonya Ashby decided to share her story with the Herald it became the most popular web story of September as people tried to learn more about this little-known condition.

October and November '“ How safe are these unisex toilets?

This letter about the proposed unisex toilets in Steyning kept thousands of people interested for October and November.
