READY, AIM '¦. SPLURGE!

Gangsters will be battling it out on stage at Uckfield Community Technology College and a spectacular end to each of three performances is planned.

College students aged between 11 and 15 will turn the clocks back to the 1920s for their roles in Bugsy Malone, a story of rival gangs in New York.

Head of drama Paul Thompson said thanks to the college technology department they had some very good splurge guns for action scenes and the art department had worked on the set.

'We are having a lot of fun getting ready and the thing I am most pleased about is how well the students have stepped up and done everything needed,' said Mr Thompson. It was good to see teachers and people from other departments involved in the musical too, he added.

About 80 students make up the cast with leading roles taken by Joe Millar, 15, playing Bugsy; Kieron Martin 14, Fat Sam; Samantha Brett, Blousey; Thea Rostart, 14, Dandy Dan and Bella Richards, 14, Tallulah.

Performances start at 7.30pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (Jan 31, Feb 1 and Feb 2) at UCTC. Tickets are available at the college reception, 7 for front row seats, 6 for the rest and 5 for concessions.
