The lantern parade through the city was held on December 21, to mark the longest night of the year.

Thousands take part in the parade, which starts at New Road, and processes through the Lanes before arriving at Madeira Drive for a bonfire and fireworks.

Run by arts charity Same Sky, money raised at the event goes towards the next parade.

This year the event raised £19,163.67 – the largest amount in the event’s history – with £5,412.67 from bucket collections on the night.

A further £5,698 came in from a crowdfunding campaign, with around £4,000 each donated from sponsors The Chilli Pickle and ARKA Original Funerals.

John Varah, Same Sky artistic director, said: “As ever, Burning the Clocks was a massive success. We would like to thank everyone that took part in the parade and those that came down to watch. Particularly to our team of bucket collectors on the night and our event sponsors ARKA Original Funerals and The Chilli Pickle who have helped keep the event alive.

“We would also like to say a massive thanks to everyone that donated on the night and supported the crowdfunder. This community contribution has raised just over £19,000 and has helped ensure this much-loved Brighton event can remain in existence.”
