Record number of students gain gold

A record Number of Hastings and Bexhill Students have achieved Gold Standard in 2015, up almost 40 per cent on the previous year.

One hundred students in Years 10 to 13, from seven local schools and colleges, will be awarded their Gold Standard at an Evening of Celebration to mark another successful year of the Scholars Programme in Hastings and Bexhill.

The event includes the presentation of the prestigious Mike Baker Scholar of the Year Award which recognises Scholars who excelled on the programme during the year and who have been shortlisted from the 100 Gold Standard recipients.

The inspiring event takes place at ARK William Parker Academy, Hastings, on Tuesday June 30, 6–7.15pm

The evening celebrates the achievements of all scholars and some will speak of their experiences and successes this year.

Lewis says, for him, the Scholars programme has been excellent in several respects. “In particular the experience of participating in university level discussions and activities had been a driving force in maintaining my passion and enthusiasm for education,” he said.

Bethany added: “It has been fun, educational and inspirational and has made me more confident and knowledgeable about my future.”

Local Programme Manager, Learning Mentors and Jeremy Reynolds, Director, Scholars Programme, will also speak during the evening. Jeremy says: “We are delighted that the Scholars Programme is having such a positive impact on the aspirations and attainment of young people in Hastings & Bexhill. This event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the progress that our Scholars have made.”
