Recreation work nearing end

Work at the North Trade Road recreation ground should be completed within the next three weeks, the town council says.

Contractors are currently on site creating a car park and new play area.

Speaking at a meeting of Battle Town Council, town clerk Peter Mills said: "The work on the car park is going very slowly because of the weather, but the general area of the car park has now been levelled and laid."

The play area is expected to be ready in a week to 10 days, whilst the car park is expected to take another two or three weeks to complete.

Discussions are also under way with regards to laying a hard surface area from the Guide Hut on site to the new car park to enable easier disabled access.

Mr Mills said it was not yet clear how the path would be funded.

He said: "We did make it clear to the Guides it was not our responsibility to fully fund it."
