Recycling revamp progressing well

The site, which is run by Viridor on behalf of West Sussex County Council, will remain closed on weekdays and at Bank Holidays during the redevelopment work.

However, there is a temporary service at the site on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am 3pm, which can accept general and black bag waste, plus bulky household items.

The temporary site cannot accept hazardous items, including asbestos, batteries, chemicals, engine oil, electrical items, gas bottles, plasterboard or tyres.

However, all these items – and more – can be taken to the County Council’s Household Waste Recycling sites in:

Burgess Hill – Fairbridge Way, RH15 8AR.

Crawley – Metcalf Way, RH11 7XN.

Horsham – Worthing Road, RH13 OAR.

All three are open:

Monday to Friday – 8am to 7pm.

Weekends and Bank holidays – 9am to 7pm.

Deborah Urquhart, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy, said: “We are delighted with the progress being made on transforming East Grinstead into a state-of-the-art Household Waste Recycling Site.

“The work should be completed by late autumn when the site will have a completely difference layout.

“There will, for example, be new recycling areas that will remove the need for steps. Large windows in the rear of a new transfer station building will enable the public to ‘post’ materials, making recycling and waste disposal more accessible and user-friendly.

“There will also be improvements to the site entrance and access road.

“Although the site is closed during the week and at Bank Holidays, the temporary weekend service on the site is going well.”
