Red Cross fundraiser

Come inside - there was a warm welcome waiting for visitors to the Red Cross coffee morning at Thalia House on Saturday.

The event is held every month without fair and the Bexhill centre organiser for Red Cross, Rosemary Barry, is always pleased by the amount of people who want to take part.

"The coffee morning is held every third Saturday of the month between 10-12.00," she said.

"We get an extremely good response from the local community. A lot of them are regulars and they come in month after month. It is a nice social event.

"I have an excellent team who run it and they have been doing it for many years as well - in particular Eric Levy and Joan Wilson, who are the two who really are the organisers and have been doing it for many years."

The coffee morning was attended by Quenelda Avery, President of British Red Cross Sussex, who said: "This is a particularly special Red Cross Centre, very ably led by Rosemary Barry, and that is because of her enthusiasm and personality.

"From here they do medical loans and fundraising. It is nice to see so many of these loyal volunteers - some of them have been here for 65 years. You can feel the atmosphere here and they are so supportive to one another."

Money raised by the coffee morning is spent in various ways, some of it going to the Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Unit.
