Refuse collector seriously hurt on his rounds in Camber

A refuse collector is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a serious head injury whilst out on his rounds.

The man is believed to have had a fall whilst collecting bins in Old Lydd Road in Camber last Thursday (January 28).

Two Community First Responders were the first on the scene of the incident, followed by paramedics.

The Kent Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene, landing in a nearby field just before 7.50am.

The refuse collector, believed to be aged in his 40s, was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

On Monday morning (February 1), Sussex Police said the man was in a critical condition.

But a spokesperson for the Force said the incident was not being treated as a police matter.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it would not be investigating the matter as it “does not appear to be work related.”

Kier, which delivers refuse collection services for Rother District Council, has been approached for comment.
