Relentless proves apt name for winning Slindon car

RELENTLESS lived up to its name when the car made by Slindon College pupils won a green energy prize.

The vehicle came first ahead of more than 50 rivals in the Greenpower season opener race at Silverstone.

The victory was achieved amid atrocious wet and windy conditions.

Team drivers Tom Standing, James Webster and Will Woodage battled on through heavy rain and poor visibility in a relay during the entire race assisted by their pit crew, Robert Peters and Will Morrow.

Paul Burbidge, the college’s head of design technology, said: “I am extremely proud of all the effort the team have put into Greenpower this year and feel we are justly rewarded by winning the first race of the season, despite stiff competition from much bigger schools.”

Mr Burbidge runs the college’s Greenpower team with help from volunteer engineer, Hamish Ilton.

Their second car, Slindon Stealth, came 15th.
