Services are being held across the district on Sunday, November 13.

And at the remembrance parade in Littlehampton, it could be the last time the standard of the town branch of the Royal British Legion is paraded.

This comes after the Littlehampton branch was forced to shut down.

According to Derek Moore, the honorary poppy appeal organiser in Littlehampton, the closure was due to the ill health of members and problems with getting new recruits.

But Mr Moore, 68, from Wick, said Royal British Legion members were looking forward to this year’s parade, which starts at the clock tower in High Street at 10.30am.

The Littlehampton Army Cadet Force will be carrying the standard to the Littlehampton War Memorial and St Mary’s Church in Church Street, Littlehampton.

He said: “At this time of year, the poppy appeal really tugs at people’s heartstrings because people lost grandparents and great-grandparents in the war so they want to honour them.

“It is a shame that this could be the last time we parade the standard, but it is just the way it is.”

He added that the standard would be laid in St Mary’s Church next year.

On Sunday Arun District councillors will be attending services in Angmering, Arundel, East Preston, Findon, Kingston, Rustington and Ford.
