The town council will discuss dedicating the bench to Mr Izod and possibly Bernard James Waters for £979.40, paid for by Rother District Council, according to the agenda.

Other items to be discussed include a proposal to give £5,000 to Rye Harbour Sailing Club for a new shower block and £50 to ARRCC for afternoon dances with older people.

The council’s budget will also be debated which shows a spend of £243,548 for 2015/16, with an allocated £303,639 for this year.

The main increases come from the cottage it rents out as well as the upcoming by-election to replace Mr Izod on July 28.

Its income is expected to decrease by £12,146 from last year despite its share of council tax going up by around £1,000.

At the planning and townscape committee meeting afterwards, members will discuss an application to change the use of the derelict Ashbees shop on High Street to a home.

The meeting starts at 6.30pm at Rye Town Hall.
