REPLACEMENT CARDIAC MONITORS FOR CONQUEST

PATIENTS with suspected cardiac conditions will now benefit from new monitors which can diagnose patients.

The monitors take recordings of a patient's heart rhythm, blood pressure, oxygen levels and cardiac output.

Dr James Wilkinson, Clinical Director of Medicine and A&E, said, "Patients who have had a suspected heart attack or have a cardiac condition need to be monitored in order to treat them properly, improve their symptoms and increase their life expectancy.

"Our current monitors on the James Ward and Cardiac Care Unit were purchased in 1992 and we will now purchase 12 new monitors which will be split equally between the ward and the unit."

Eight telemetry systems will also be purchased '“ to the total cost of 161,477.

The Trust board approved the business case for the replacement of the monitors on Wednesday.
