Report finds Worthing High School is on the right track

AN Ofsted monitoring inspection of Worthing High School has found the school continues to make improvements following its removal from special measures in January.

The report, published on Friday, found senior leaders and governors had acted swiftly to tackle the areas requiring improvement identified in the school’s January inspection.

These included the achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils, leadership and management.

Head teacher Carolyn Dickinson said: “I was delighted to see the hard work of the staff over the last year has been recognised.

“The changes we have made in our behaviour management have been recognised and students are now engaging better in lessons. Attendance is above national levels and has improved particularly for boys.”

Inspector Catherine Anwar’s report stated that boys in year 11 were making better-than-average levels of progress in English and in maths, and students’ engagement with learning in lessons was better.

Tony Cohen, governing body chairman, said: “There is still work to do but we are confident the senior staff have the drive and vision to move the school to at least Good within the next academic year.
