Rescue crews called to help cow stuck in Eastbourne river

Fire and animal rescue crews were called to help after a cow was stuck in an Eastbourne river.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the incident at West Rise Marsh, in Sevenoaks Road, happened on Saturday (July 18) at around 2.50pm.

ESFRS said it sent three appliances, including a Land Rover and an Animal Rescue Uni-Mog, but the cow was removed by a farmer with a tractor.

An ESFRS spokesperson said, “At 2.52pm on Saturday three appliances, including a Land Rover and Animal Rescue Uni-Mog, were sent to West Rise Marsh, Sevenoaks Road, in Eastbourne, to assist with the rescue of one cow stuck in a river.

“The cow was removed by a farmer with a tractor and advice was given at the scene by crews.”

ESFRS said the Animal Rescue Unit used a purpose built Mercedes Unimog 4 x 4 off road appliance designed to provide assistance with animal rescues.

The vehicle, accoding to ESFRS, is fitted with a hydraulic crane capable of lifting farm animals from open water and ditches.
