Rescue helicopter 'lands' at Holy Trinity School to give special message

Staff and students at Holy Trinity C of E school in Lower Beeding were visited by Peter Faulding and the ‘Lucas Dobson Water Safety Campaign’.

The aim of the campaign is to teach children about the importance of water safety and to deliver life jackets to schools.

The Lucas Dobson Water Safety Campaign is a legacy to six-year-old Lucas Dobson who, tragically, drowned in the River Stour on Saturday 17 August 2019.

“Living so close to Brighton and the coast, we felt it was important to teach our pupils about the dangers of water, to allow them to keep safe near the water when taking part in any water-based activities”

Mr. Faulding is the Chief Executive at Specialist Group International, which supports rescues of all kinds, including alongside the police and fire services.

His company was bought in by Kent police to help look for Lucas during the search and sadly found his body.

One of the pupils who listened to Mr. Faulding’s talk said, “It is important that he came to our school. He helped us learn how to keep safe around water”.

Children listened to the important message and were also allowed to look around the helicopter once it had landed.

Another of the pupils said, “I learnt that swimming in rivers and lakes can be very dangerous, you don’t know what’s under the water”,

Parents and Children will now be able to borrow some of the eight life jackets if they are planning fishing or boat trips.
