Residents are invited to exhibition on the Chichester Conservation Area

From Friday, April 22, residents will be able to see the revised drafts of the Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Proposals which have been prepared by Chichester District Council.

The appraisal includes recommendations for enlarging the conservation area and recommendations for additional planning controls to protect the special character of the area.

The Management Proposals include recommendations which are aimed at either protecting the special character of the areas, where it is seen to be under some threat, or enhancing the character of the areas.

The public exhibition will take place on Friday, 4pm to 7pm, and on Saturday, 10am to 1pm, at the Old Court Room, The Council House, North Street, Chichester.

The formal consultation will run until Friday 3 June.

Councillor Susan Taylor, cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “The Conservation Area appraisal has been revised following guidelines set out by Historic England.

“The review has been undertaken to ensure we have an up-to-date document to support future planning decisions for the area.

“It identifies the character and qualities of the Conservation Area; highlights key issues; and puts forward proposals for its management over the coming years. The appraisal also identifies features that detract from the character of the area.”

Cllr Taylor added: “I would encourage as many people as possible to take a look at the appraisal and send us their feedback by 3 June.”

Copies of the draft documents will be available to view at Chichester District Council’s offices at East Pallant House, Chichester.

They can also be viewed on the council’s website from 22 April at chichester.gov.uk/article/24659/Conservation-Area-Character-Appraisals

People are encouraged to submit any comments or suggestions by downloading the questionnaire.

People can also put their comments in writing or use paper questionnaires. These should be posted before 3 June to:

The final documents will go to the Council’s Cabinet on 7 June 2016.
