Residents get board

Members of Bexleigh Hythe & Abbey Residents Association (BHARA) in West St Leonards are celebrating the unveiling of their new community noticeboard.

The noticeboard is situated at the Abbey Drive (off Bexhill Road) entrance to Combe Valley Countryside Park.

It was generously donated by Nicole Collomb and the Moveable Feast Garden Committee.

The noticeboard and its installation is a partnership project by BHARA, Cllr Mike Howard (Labour Borough Councillor for West St Leonards) and the Park Rangers and Regeneration Departments of Hasting Borough Council.

Cllr Howard commented: “It is intended that it will be a valuable information point for both very local residents and the increasing events and planned facilities in the adjoining Combe Valley.”

The Residents Association initially grew out of the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme, in order to raise funds for a children’s play space in the Combe Valley Countryside Park area.

Members have been working hard in partnership with Cllr Howard, Hastings Borough Council and Groundworks Trust, an environmental charity to secure the resources needed.

As a result the resident’s association now meets regularly to discuss matters of concern to their locality and organises community events, which will now also be publicised on the new noticeboard.

The Combe Valley Countryside Park covers an area of 600 hectares within Rother District and Hastings Borough.

The Countryside Park is a long-term project which will create a significant green space between the towns and serving an immediate population of 22,500 people and an overall urban population of 130,000 people. It will provide an opportunity for active recreation including walking, cycling, horse-riding, bird watching and formal sports.
