Residents given first look at Barnham housing plans

Around 80 people visited the David Wilson Homes’ public exhibition where the developer revealed details of its plans for the new development of 56 homes.

David Wilson Homes development director Julian Jones said visitors had been given the opportunity to comment on the proposal for Brooks Nursery 
during the event held in Eastergate Parish Hall, on September 11.

The new homes will provide a mix of two, three or four bedroom accommodation.

“The exhibition provided a forum for people to look at how the development fits into the surroundings,” he said.

“Together with our professional consultants we were able to discuss our proposals in detail and demonstrate our commitment to working with the local community.

“We have a strong commitment to working with local communities in the areas in which we operate and we are keen to 
engage residents at every stage of the process and find out their views on the scheme.”

Residents also had the chance to talk to architects, planners and engineers, about issues like drainage.

The site is currently a derelict nursery with an old barn and outhouses and most of the site is overgrown by tall weeds.

The redevelopment plans include the provision for a new site access road off Barnham Road, plus a landscape and ecology buffer zone and habitat corridors to the south-western edges of the site.

Each home would also be provided with two allocated parking spaces.

Extra room for visitors would be provided, and no overspill parking is expected to result from the development.

Developers also beleived the added housing would have a small impact on the amount of traffic using the villages roads, an added 30 trips during rush hour are expected.

Investigations have also concluded no junction improvements would be needed at the A29 Nyton Road roundabout.

Those interested can now view the development plans online and submit their comments directly to David Wilson Homes.

All feedback will be considered before the housebuilder submits an application for planning permission to Arun District Council.
