Residents say yes to new store

More than nine out of ten residents want Asda to arrive in Bognor Regis.

The retailer announced on Tuesday that its proposals had received 95 per cent support. The company said it had received 505 feedback forms regarding its plans to open a store at Oldlands Farm next to the A29 Shripney Road.

Detailed analysis of the replies showed that more than 95 per cent were in favour of the scheme.

A clear concensus emerged among the respondents that the proposed development would help improve shopping choice in the area and provide much-needed jobs for Bognor's residents.

Asda proposes to spend 30m setting up in Bognor. The investment includes 4.5m to build the infrastructure needed to enable a long-awaited business park to be created at Oldlands Farm.

Asda spokesman Tom McGarry said: 'Clearly, the vast majority of people support the plans. We are grateful that so many took the time to give us their feedback. We are confident that our investment will help ensure the long-term economic prosperity of Bognor.

'The results from the consultation show that residents share that view.

'Our results also show that people are in favour of a business park on the site.

'Only our proposals can meet that desire. Without our investment in the infrastructure and initial business unit, there is little chance that Bognor will get the future it deserves.'
