Residents to donate food for Horsham district foodbank

Residents from across Horsham district will be invited to donate food to their local Tesco store next week (Friday November 29 to Sunday December 1).

The food will be collected by the Horsham District Foodbank before being distributed to people across the area in times of crisis.

The retailer aims to collect 10 million meals by the end of the year in a bid to hold the biggest food collection in the UK.

Customers at the Broadbridge Heath and Pulborough stores will be asked to pick-up an item of food from a special shopping list before donating it at the end of their shop.

Tesco will be topping up total donations by a further 30 per cent.

This is the retailer’s third Neighbourhood Food Collection.

David Sheldon, chief executive of Horsham Matters, who are running the foodbank in partnership with churches across the district, said: “Winter is the hardest time of year for people living in poverty, and this Christmas is looking especially tough as fuel prices continue to rise.

“We’re delighted that Tesco are working with us to help stop local people going hungry and we hope that many people will donate a tin or two.”
