Residents to have say on landmark's design

A chance for residents to choose the design for a landmark building along Bognor Regis seafront is available this week.

Developer St Modwen Properties is staging a public exhibition with its initial ideas for the 100m regeneration of the central area. The display will take place between 2pm and 9pm on Thursday January 24, 9am-3pm on January 25 and 10am to 4pm on January 28.

Its location will be Bognor Regis Methodist Church in Waterloo Square.

The exhibition will be the first formal occasion for almost two years in which residents will be able to view proposals for the future use of the two important sites of the Regis Centre and Hothamton car parks.

They will be able to give their thoughts and ideas about the schemes through a questionnaire.

Representatives from St Modwen and the design team will be present to answer any questions.

St Modwen senior development manager Gary Morris said a number of the principle uses for the sites had been set by Arun District Council after previous public consultation.

"However, some aspects of the schemes, including initial design concepts, location and height/density of buildings, plus public space use and landscape design will be presented for consultation. Public feedback will be sought.

"We are very much looking forward to working closely with the community to develop the proposals and hope that local residents will come along to the exhibition and give us their views," he stated.

The comments made will be used to amend the proposals ready for further consultation this April.

The uses for the Regis Centre site include a leisure/entertainment complex, a ten pin bowling alley, bars and restaurants, a hotel and 168 flats.
