Contractors SSE Enterprise, working on behalf of West Sussex County Council, replaced the lights in Ambrose Place over the Christmas period, as they were more than 15 years old.

Worthing West MP Sir Peter Bottomley is a resident of Ambrose Place and said he was only informed of the work after it had been carried out.

Sir Peter said: “If you look at the lights it’s just wrong.

“I think there’s been a series of mistakes. West Sussex County Council forgot Ambrose Place is a conservation area, it’s historic Worthing. They have the responsibility to go and return the lights from the scrap yard.”
