Restaurant wins award

A RESTAURANT has won the Which? Good Food Guide South East Restaurant of the Year award.

The Hungry Monk, Jevington, won the award after a public vote.

Elizabeth Carter, editor of the Good Food Guide, said: 'Hungry Monk is a well deserved winner of the regional award.

'Nigel Mackenzie's long-standing restaurant draws the crowds for proficient cooking that moves with the times, though it should be noted that this is the restaurant that invented banoffi pie, which everybody should try at least once."

Corinne Williams manages the restaurant with her husband Andrew.

She said: 'The award was something we didn't expect.

'It is lovely and just shows the Hungry Monk is going strong.

'People voted for us and it is nice to see customers find it a worthwhile experience.'

The Hungry Monk will now feature in the 2009 edition of The Good Food Guide.

The restaurant will compete with nine other regional winners for The Which? Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year award, which will be presented at a ceremony at the British Museum on June 17.
