Restrictions on walking the dog

NEW dog control orders covering seven public open spaces in Bexhill could be approved soon.

If agreed, the orders would affect Bexhill Down, Broad Oak Park, Collington Woods, High Woods, Levetts Wood, Gillham Wood and St Mary's Wood - plus the beach between October 1 and March 1.

The controls being considered by Rother cabinet would require:

*All dog faeces to be removed

*Dogs to be kept on a one-metre lead in scheduled areas

*Dogs to be prohibited from the beach at all times between Sea Road and Pages Avenue and from the allotments at All Saints' Lane, Collington, Barrack Hall, Park, Broad Oak Park, Ingrams Avenue, Preston Road and Summerhill

*Nobody to take more than three dogs on to Rother land

The orders would be made under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 and would replace a series of byelaws for the control of dogs and for the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 which has been repealed.
