Work had been due to begin yesterday and was expected to be completed on Monday.

Poor weather has meant any delays to work would conflict with Highways England’s work on the Fitzallan Bridge on the A27.

The resurfacing will now be scheduled later in the 2015-16 financial year.

Earlier this week, before the cancellation was announced, a council spokesman said: “We are making significant investments in the infrastructure of Arundel.

“Once work has been completed on the Arundel cycle path and the resurfacing of the High Street, Arundel will have a shared use cycle route that connects the railway station to the town centre.

“The town will also have a smoother and safer road surface in the High Street.”
