Retrial ordered

A Hastings man accused of helping his friend set fire to a car which was allegedly used in a fatal hit-and-run will stand trial again next week after his first trial was abandoned.

Adam Beeney, 25, of Cotswold Close, went on trial on Monday accused of perverting the course of justice.

But the jury were discharged on the second day and a new trial will take place on Thursday at Hove Crown Court.

Gary Finch, 18, died four days after being struck by the Renault 19 as he walked with two friends along Upper Park Road in Hastings on November 14 last year.

Beeney's friend, Christopher Rolfe, 44, of Pevensey Road, was allegedly behind the wheel of the car when it smashed into Mr Finch, of Ninfield Road, Bexhill.

Rolfe admitted perverting the course of justice, failing to stop, driving with no insurance and driving without a full licence. But he denies careless driving and will face a trial before Hastings magistrates at a date to be arranged.

Beeney denies perverting the course of justice.
