Revamped Southern Pavilion hopes to wow judges

THE OWNERS of Worthing’s rejuvenated Southern Pavilion hope their ‘wow factor’ wedding and events venue will be a hit with the business awards judges.

Richard Bradley and Phil Duckett opened the derelict former nightclub building at the end of the pier in April, transforming it into a multi-use venue.

Mr Bradley, who nominated the venue in the start-up category, said: “We brought back to life a sad disused building which sits on the southern tip of Worthing’s jewel.

“The venue is now used for a variety of events including weddings, parties, corporate functions and a cafe.

“It has created much interest in Worthing and considerably increased visitor numbers along the pier.”

The business duo took on the lease of the Southern Pavilion in January, swiftly revitalising the building.

They worked in partnership with Worthing Borough Council to restore the disused building back to its former Art Deco glory days, using mainly local suppliers during the refit.

Mr Bradley added: “We support local businesses wherever possible. We do this by using local suppliers for produce and services.

“We support local charities and non-profit -making organisations.

“We have worked with Creative Waves, to name just one organisation. They arranged for a local school to create the artwork along the pier.

“We give young people development opportunities. We have worked with Northbrook College and we are looking to take on a number of apprentices over the next 12 months.”

The venue received rave reviews on opening night, with tourism development and marketing officer Janice Fraser, of Worthing and Adur councils, describing the project as ‘spectacular’ and that it could be a ‘real attraction for Worthing’.

“We have provided a destination on the pier which is now enjoyed by thousands,” said Mr Bradley.

“We have brought additional business into Worthing from wedding events and corporate functions and provided a smaller, more intimate events venue.”
