VILLAGE HALL CELEBRATION: As part of tomorrow’s programme to celebrate the opening of the new library at the Village Hall at 8pm, there will be an auction of some 40 lots of Promises and Items of Interest. Items include a round of golf for two at Piltdown Golf Course, an offer to do two hours’ ironing, two tickets for Glyndebourne, a large collection of postage stamps, a 19th century tea caddy, a Royal Copenhagen vase and paintings by M J Cruikshank and others. Viewing will be immediately prior to the sale and all proceeds will go to the Village Hall Building Appeal.

ST MARY’S: It’s Rogation Sunday, a day in the church calendar to focus on the farms and farmers and everyone who produces our food and to give God’s blessing on them. To celebrate this, our Bless a Farm Service takes place at Plashett Park Farm at noon and it would be lovely to see people there. In addition to 8am Holy Communion and 6.30pm Eucharist, the 10am Family Service includes two family baptisms. We look forward to welcoming Seraya and Charlie and their friends and family. Ascension Day will be marked on Thursday with a Eucharist at 7.30pm. At Saturday Club on May 7 (10am to noon) there will be plenty of fun based around the story of Noah’s Ark. Do come and bring children or grandchildren. Plant Sale May 7 (2pm) donations of plants are welcome for this event in the vicarage garden.

RAMBLERS: Sunday April 17. The original plan was to walk from Plumpton Green and take in some of the many bluebell woods. But this plan was abandoned because the paths were so full of mud. Instead we went up to the Ashdown Forest and did a circuit from Duddeswell car park. Fortunately the weather was just perfect; sunny with little wind and no rain. The route took us up through some typical Wealden woodland and onto Camp Hill from where we enjoyed some magnificent views of the South Downs. We continued west to Friends Clump and then a southerly loop to complete the circuit. Our next walk will be on Sunday, meeting as usual in the car park behind the Ringmer Village shops at 10am. It will be about five miles around Ditching Beacon. Ringmer Ramblers welcomes new members. We are associated with the Ramblers Association and we carry full public liability insurance. COUNTRY MARKET: The market will be open as usual on Tuesday, from 10am to 11am in the village hall. The usual selection of homemade, home grown and hand crafted items will be on sale. We have a variety of eggs at the moment including quail. Do come and see what is on offer and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee after your shopping.

EVENING WI: Thank you to all who supported the WI’s Spring Fair last Saturday which raised £550. During April members have enjoyed meeting with other local WIs in Firle when Shirley Kirby brought an interesting display of WI tablecloths from the County WI’s Textile archive.

Some, especially those dating back to the 1930s, showed beautiful needlework, and many were designed to reflect something about the village where they were made.

Our next meeting is on May 3 at 7.30pm in the village hall when members will be deciding how to vote on the two resolutions at the AGM, which are about appropriate care in hospitals for people with dementia and avoiding food waste and addressing food poverty.

After this Anne Stamper will be talking about Denman College and sharing some of the things she has done on recent visits there.

BRIDGE CLUB: At its meeting on Wednesday March 6, the result of the duplicate pairs played was: 1, Alan Disney and Roy Skan; 2, Joan Evett and Sandra Dudley-Williams; 3, Liz and Tim Owen. The club next meets in the St Mary’s room of the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Contact 814220.

BOWLS CLUB: We are having an open morning on May 7 at 10am. If you haven’t tried playing bowls, now’s the chance to come and have a taster. We are a very friendly mixed club. There will also be coffee served, so do come along. Bowls is for all ages. We are adjacent to the village pump. All you need is flat soled shoes. We play from April to September. We look forward to meeting you.

NEARLY NEW SALE: We are organising a Children’s Nearly New sale at Ringmer Primary School for anything to do with children age 4 years plus. Items we hope to be selling include clothes, toys, books, bikes, scooters etc. It is on May 7, 10.30am until noon. If anyone wishes to sell then they should register in advance please at [email protected]. There will be tea and cakes too. If anyone has anything they could donate for school funds then please e-mail the same address and we would be very pleased to collect.
