RNLI volunteers prepare for an ‘oar-some’ day in Littlehampton

A gruelling test of endurance is on the cards for charitable RNLI volunteers, later this month.

As part of their national SOS Day, lifeboat crews from Littlehampton are holding a 24-hour, non-stop sponsored row at the town’s Tesco superstore, at Broadpiece.

The fund-raiser will kick off on Friday, January 25, at midday and is scheduled to finish on the following day, at noon, with Littlehampton mayor Emma Neno closing the event.

RNLI volunteer and event organiser Gavin Simmons said about 20 people were taking part.

“What we really want are supporters to come down and cheer our guys and girls on. Who knows, we might even manage to rope in a few passers-by to give us a hand or an oar?” he added.

Donations can be made at the lifeboat station, at Fisherman’s Quay or online, at www.justgiving.com/littlehamptoRNLI24hourrow
