Road still shut as police investigate death of 20-year-old Pagham man.

Rowan Way was still shut from just after its junction with Berghestede Road this morning (Wednesday, May 15). North Bersted Street is also closed to traffic.

The police cordons are in place to allow officers to continue to gather evidence following the death of Charlie Hancock, of Nyetimber Lane, Pagham.

Police received a report of a hit-and-run incident in Rowan Way just after 10pm on Monday.

Mr Hancock was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, where he died in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A 41-year-old local man, believed to be the driver of the car, was arrested for grievous bodily harm at the time.

Detectives have appealed for information, and would like anyone friends of Mr Hancock’s who saw him in the lead up to his death to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Wendy Burton of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: “We are appealing to anyone who saw two men having an altercation while in a grey Chrysler Voyager vehicle in Rowan Way, Bognor, between 9.30pm and 10pm on Monday, to come forward.

“We would also like to hear from any friends of Charlie who may have seen him on Monday as we are trying to trace his movements.”
