St Mary’s Salehurst: start this week Sunday 19th February, 2nd before Lent, with Holy Communion at 9am in the Mission Room. At 11am it is Mattins at St Mary’s. The children’s Sunday club will also be taking place this week during the service. This is for all primary aged children and will be held in the vestry at the front of the church. The afternoon service this week is being held at Holy Trinity in Hurst Green at 4pm.

Robertsbridge Club: is calling any members that have still not paid their annual subs to make sure you do before the end of February. If you don’t this means you will no longer be a valid member and will have to re- join.

Which means you could be missing out on great evenings like next Saturday 25th February when Soul Xpress will be performing at the Club from 8.30pm.

Book event: at the Stables Theatre in Hastings is being organised by Janet Brooman from the Old Saddlery Bookshop in Robertsbridge High Street. This is to be `An evening with Simon Mawer`. Simon is a multi award-winning novelist and will be speaking about his life as a writer. There will be a Q&A and a book signing. This takes place on Thursday 23rd February at Stables starting at 7pm. Tickets are £7 or £5 for members and can be booked at the Box Office on 01424 423221 or online at www.stablestheatre.co.uk If you need any more information pop in and see Janet at the bookshop.

A date for your diary: if you are interested in Robertsbridge Bonfire Society and would like to take part in the Dinner Dance this year jot down the date, it will be on Saturday 6th May. More details will follow when they are available.

FOOTBALL: The weekend was a story of missed penalties as both The Bridge’ teams matches were decided on those events. The 1st team hosted local rivals Hawkhurst United in the 2nd Round of the Hastings F.A. Intermediate Cup and went a goal behind after 15 minutes. The match should have turned on the half hour mark when top goal scorer Guy Ballard had his shot saved by the Hawkhurst defender on the goal line, who was sent off and Ballard stepped up to take the penalty and shot wide. Five minutes before the break the visitors doubled their lead. The Bridge got back into the match on the hour mark when Jethro Warren scored but depsite all their efforts the visitors hung on for victory. The Bridge 2nd team travelled to second placed Bexhill Broncos in the Macron East Sussex Football League Division 5 and matched their opponents in the first 20 minutes when an excellent shot by the home forward was well saved by Nick Townsend in the Bridge goal and despite chances for both teams it was stalemate at half time. The second period saw the Bridge press for a goal and they were rewarded after 55 minutes when a Justin Hardy 30 yard free kick was headed home by the Broncos defender. The Broncos now pushed for an equaliser and they were awarded a penalty on the hour mark and this was well saved by Townsend to keep the Bridge ahead. The last 30 minutes saw both sides squander chances but the Bridge defence held firm for a well earned three points.

FRIDAY DARTS: We played at home to Mountfield Club ‘B’ last week and won the singles darts 7-0 with victories for Kevin Dixon, Gary Honeysett, Guy Ballard, Dave Goodsell, Andy York, Michael Stone and Pete Giles while Andy/Gary won the Mens Pairs 2-0 and Coral Giles/Guy won the Mixed Pairs 2-0 but Nicola Breslin/Coral lost the Ladies Pairs 2-1. There were 100+ scores for Gary[123, 4 x 100]and Michael[100]. We won Pushpenny 4-1 with wins for Michael Stone, Dave Goodsell, Ted Goldfinch and Alan Apps with ‘goldwatches’ for Dave Fortsch[2] and Ted[1]. We don’t have a game tonight.
