St Mary’s Salehurst: have services this week Sunday 12th June Trinity 3, starting with Holy Communion in the Mission Room at 9am and Sung Eucharist at 11am at Salehurst.

There was an amazing turnout last week for Rev. Channers Celebration Service. The church was decorated to the rafters and family and friends supported him for his Golden Jubilee service. It was a beautiful summer afternoon for the BBQ and everyone that attended enjoyed a relaxing time with formalities kept to a minimum. Thanks to all those that attended, donated food, flowers or helped in any way to make the whole day a great success.

Soap Box Derby: is now here. It is on Sunday 12th June and is being held in Church Lane from the top of the Lane down to past the pub. This means that from 1pm – 6pm that Church Lane will be closed to traffic. This event is being organised by The Salehurst Halt teaming up with the Bonfire Society to celebrate the queens 90th birthday and to raise funds for the Bonfire Society and Demelza House. Racing starts at 2pm with I am sure what is going to be some weird and wonderful Buggies.

To round off the afternoon there will be live music and pizzas available at the Salehurst Halt.

Progressive Whist: is holding its next evening on Thursday 16th June at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 7pm. everyone is welcome to this fun evening and that includes beginners.

Roger Hill: is a very busy man at the moment. He is one of our local artists that has been exhibiting at The Stade Hall until last Sunday, now this week he finds success and is exhibiting in new English art club at `The Mall Galleries` annual open exhibition. His painting is one of only 81 chosen from the 1300 entries submitted. This is open 16th – 25th June, 10am –5pm daily but closes at 1pm on the final day. Admission is £3.00 and £2.50 concessions. Well-done Roger.

Royalty and Ragtime Picnic: is here next week Sunday 19th June at 12.30pm on the Recreation Ground. This is a free event for the whole village to get together for an afternoon of fun and relaxation. Take along a picnic and a gazebo, chill out and enjoy the entertainment. The Dancing Day Trippers and The Sussex Stompers Jazz Band will be making an appearance. There will also be lots of other fun and laughter to be had.

Macmillan Charity Disco: is on Saturday 25th June at Robertsbridge Club. Tickets for this cost £5.00 are available from Sandie at the Floral Boutique. There will be a large raffle and the chance to win £100 at the end of the evening; you have to be in the club to win.

One for next month: Friday 1st July at Robertsbridge Hall RoCoCo and friends will be holding its Summer Concert at 7.30pm.

STOOLBALL: Last Thursday the Mixed won their first match of the season with a 2 run victory over Pett in an exciting and friendly game. The visitors batted first and lost opener Lisa[6] with the score on 22 when she was run out and just 7 runs later their other opener Hans[10] was also run out. Jacky[35n.o.] and Nathan[22] steadied the innings with a 26 run partnership before Nathan was caught by Ian Kitson from Sarah Clark’[1-18] bowling. Ollie[7] was bowled by Ian[1-10] as the visitors were on 82 and then young Cole[10] went with the score on 99 cleaned bowled by Lisa Fifield[2-1-16]. Darren[5n.o.] took their innings total to 112-5 from the allotted 10 overs. An opening partnership of 50 between Keith Apps[18] and Sarah[42] was broken when Keith was run out while skipper Richard Apps[17] was caught with the score on 75. Ian[6] was caught 4 balls later and then Graham Clark[4] was run out. Reece Kuhler[3] was run out on 108 but young Callum Apps[1n.o.] stayed with Sarah to see us win by just 2 runs. The Ladies played their second tournament of the season where they again finished bottom but with such a young side they are learning a lot from the experience. We played a strong Icklesham side who scored 89 without loss while in reply we were all out for just 46 with Jacqui Kuhler[18] the only player to reach double figures. Next were the hosts Pett and we were all out for 72 with Penny Clark[29] and Lisa Fifield[19] the only players to reach double figures while Pett won by 18 runs without loss. Our final match was against Brightling, who won the tournament, and they scored 128 without loss while in reply we scored 59 with Penny[28n.o.] and Lou Taylor[14] reaching double figures but it was an enjoyable day for all our players. Tuesday[14th] the Mixed are away to Brightling while on Thursday[16th] the Ladies are at home to Icklesham with both matches starting at 7p.m.
