RobArt: the exhibition for the 5 Robertsbridge Artists starts tomorrow Saturday 4th June. It is open from 10am – 5pm and is open until 12 June. This is being held at The Stade Hall that is next to the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings Old Town. This will be an exhibition of painting, photography and sculpture. Please if you get chance go along and support our village talent. This is in association with the Robertsbridge Enterprise Group. St Mary’s Church: is just holding one service this week on Sunday 5th June, it is to mark fifty years since Rev. Christopher Channer was ordained. The church is so grateful for all that Rev. Channer has done to support it over the last 18 months that St Mary’s intends to celebrate in style. Bishop Nicholas Reade who has been a good friend to St Mary’s over many years will preach the sermon. Rev Channer has invited many friends and colleagues from past parishes as well as members of his family.

The service will be at 11am and afterwards there will be a picnic and BBQ in the garden next to the church. Many members of the congregation have contributed to this and if you would like to know more contact one of the churchwardens.

Robertsbridge Bonfire Society: held the Annual Auction of Promises last Friday. This raised over £4200.00 towards this year’s event. Thank you to all those that supported in any way. If you purchased something and still haven’t picked it up or paid for it can you please go to the club and do so as soon as possible, many thanks.

Soap Box Derby: is on Sunday 12th June and is a joint venture between the Salehurst Halt and the Bonfire Society.

This event is to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday and will see Church Lane closed between 1pm – 6pm. There will be a Hog Roast on the day, drinks and raffle available. Proceeds from the day will be between Demelza House and the Bonfire Society. This is a fun event and brings the community together.

Macmillan Charity Disco: is taking place on Saturday 25th June at Robertsbridge Club. This is being organised by Maggie Hodges who has been having her own battle with Cancer over the last year. Entry is £5.00 per person and at the end of the evening there is to be a draw where you can win £100, but you have to be in the building to win it. There is also a huge raffle, which many people in the village and afar have donated to. Please support this event as we never know when we may need a Macmillan nurse ourselves and it is such a lifeline for some people. Not only that it will be a fun evening.

The Royalty and Ragtime Picnic: is now only two weeks away. This is on Sunday June 19th at Robertsbridge Recreation Ground starting at 12.30pm. A great afternoon for the Village with free entertainment, loads of fun and another reason for friends and families to get together is that its also Fathers Day, and almost Mid Summers Day. So dust off your gazebos, get out the Tiaras and have a great time.

FOOTBALL: Robertsbridge United F.C. held their Presentation Evening at Robertsbridge Club last Saturday attended by 36 players and guests where a Indian meal was served which was organised by Tom Ripley and Scott Hayward to which we owe our thanks for a great evening. The awards were as follows- 1st team presented by Keith Stone:- Top Goal Scorer - Guy Ballard(23); Player of the Year - Paul Barnes; Players Player - Paul Barnes; Managers Player - Ben Hardy; Young Player - Henry Jex. 2nd Team presented by Jonathan Playfoot:- Top Goal Scorer - Ben Thorpe(8); Player of the Year - Colin Eade; Players Player - Kenny Jones; Managers Player - JJ Boast; Young player - JJ Boast. The Chairman thanked the sponsors Paul Mitchell Plastering Contractors; Glottenham Manor Care Home and Playfoot Engineering for their continued support. The evening was rounded off by Chris Hodges Disco.

STOOLBALL: The Mixed team are still without a win after losing at Crowhurst last Tuesday by 7 runs. An opening partnership of 39 was broken when Josh Lewis[19] was caught and 9 runs later Sarah Clark[18] was run out. Penny Clark[5] shared a 41 run partnership with JJ Boast[61] before she was caught and 7 runs later Jacqui Kuhler[3] was run out but with the score on 126 JJ was bowled which left Lou Taylor[11n.o.], Keith Apps[11] and Graham Clark[1n.o.] to take our total to 145-6 off the 11 overs. An opening partnership of 105 between Gwylm[82] and Marie[18] got the hosts off to a good start but then wickets fell quickly with Gwylm going first to a catch by JJ from Penny’[1-13] bowling and just 2 runs later Marie was caught by skipper Richard Apps from Graham’[1-4] bowling. JJ took his second catch to dismiss Ian[9] from Sarah’[2-1-33] with the score on 119 and then Ian Kitson[3-9] dismissed Lucy[7] caught by Richard, Glen[7] caught by Josh and Tracey[0] caught by JJ as the hosts crumbled to 126 and 2 runs later Lizzie was run out but Kim[13] and Natalie[5n.o.] gave the hosts victory before Kim was JJ’ fourth catch from Josh’[1-6] bowling with Ben[2n.o.] seeing the hosts end on 152-9. The Ladies hosted Catsfield last Thursday and batting first reached 120-4 from the allotted 10 overs. Jacqui Kuhler[7] was caught with the score on 10 and then Abigail Green[7] was run out on 25 and just 1 run later Sarah Clark[8] was bowled. We needed to steady the innings and that came when skipper Mel Mackay[59n.o.] and Penny Clark[20] shared a 67 run partnership before Penny was caught with Charlie Apps[3n.o.] taking our total to 120. The visitors raced off with an opening partnership of 52 between Katy[26] and Jo[60 retired] before Katy was caught by Mel from Sarah’[1-12] bowling but Lex[24] joined Jo to put on 65 when Jo retired 3 runs short of our total. Jessamy[16n.o.] and Kiah[5] gave the visitors a 20 run victory. Sunday[5th] is Pett Ladies Tournament at 10.30a.m. and then the Ladies host Icklesham on Tuesday[7th] while the Mixed travel to Civil Service on Thursday[9th] at William Parker College with both matches starting at 7p.m.
