FOOTBALL: The Bridge 1st team made it two wins on the trot with a 5-1 home victory over Sedlescombe Rangers in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division. A shot from Phil Green on 10 minutes was deflected into the net and the lead was nearly doubled but Adam Hardy’ 20 yard shot hit the post after 20 minutes. The visitors got a goal on the half hour mark when their forward beat three Bridge defenders to score to go into the break level. Two minutes after the break man of the match Phil Green’ goal bound free kick was deflected into the net and just a minute later Green completed his hat-trick with a neat finish in the top corner. The Bridge were now flying and good work by Guy Ballard saw his cross met at the far post by Ben Thorpe to score and with five minutes left Ballard beat the advancing keeper with a neat chip to remain unbeaten since the 10th October. The Bridge 2nd team travelled to Division 5 bottom side St.Leonards on a very heavy pitch. The Bridge took the lead when Sam Edmunds scored after 10 minutes and despite having most of the play The Bridge could not get that second goal before the break. The game was made save 7 minutes into the second period when Bridge keeper Nick Townsend’ long kick found Darren Poole to score on 50 minutes and the same pair combined again two minutes later to make it 3-0. The hosts did reply on the hour mark and then proceeded to try for another but man of the match young JJ Boast stood firm at the back to deny them on several occasions and in the dying minutes Matt Winchester netted for a 4-1 victory. Tomorrow the 1st team are away to Ore Athletic at Tilekiln while the 2nd team are at home to Magham Down with both matches K.O. 2p.m.
