Last Friday: saw ‘ Christmas Capers ‘ in the Village. It was a busy evening with people milling around. A return to the evening of the stilt walkers & the lantern parade. This could well be the last ‘ Christmas Capers ‘ as organiser Stephen Hardy is hanging up his baule baules ! Services: for this Sunday 13th December, Advent 3, will be 9am Eucharist in the Mission Room, Fair Lane and 11am Sung Eucharist at St Mary’s, Salehurst.

Only a couple of weeks: to go until the start of the Christmas services at St Mary’s. The Carol service with Christingles is at 4pm on Sunday December 20th. This is a candlelit service for all the family with the children carrying Christingle oranges around the church towards the crib. You are all very welcome.

Another reminder: that every Tuesday between 2 and 4pm there is an afternoon of ‘puzzling’ in The Hub at the bottom of the High Street. This is a joint venture with the Community Church and is open to anyone who wants to meet new people, eat cake and coffee and would enjoy doing puzzles of all sorts in a warm room!

DARTS: Our away match at The Old King John last Friday was postponed because our opponents could not get a team. Tonight we are at Mountfield Club against Hawkhurst Legion in the Knockout Cup 8p.m.

FOOTBALL: Mixed fortune for both The Bridge sides last Saturday with the 1st team winning 7-1 at Mountfield United in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division while the 2nd team went out of the Paul Mitchell Plastering Contractors sponsored Robertsbridge Charity Junior Cup 8-0 at Division 2 side Peasmarsh United. The 1st team went in front in the 5th minute when goal machine Guy Ballard waltzed through the Mountfield defence for a neat finish. Young Ben Thorpe’ excellent shot found the corner of the net on 15 minutes and just a minute later excellent work by Paul Barnes found Ballard whose left foot shot hit the target. A corner by Tom Ripley on the half hour mark found Ben Hardy at the far post to head home and five minutes before the break Ripley’ fine strike found the net from 18 yards. Ten minutes into the second period man of the match Ballard completed his hat-trick but the hosts got a goal back on the hour and with 10 minutes left Thorpe netted at the far post to complete a good performance by The Bridge. The 2nd team travelled to Division 2 side Peasmarsh United in the 2nd Round of the Robertsbridge Charity Junior Cup and for 25 minutes we held the hosts onslaught but a long ball caught out our defence as the host took the lead and just 10 minutes later they doubled their score after poor defending. The second half saw the manager change the system needing to score goals and for the first quarter of an hour this worked but eventually the difference between the sides told as the hosts netted six goals in the last twenty five minutes for a comfortable victory. Tomorrow the 1st team are at home to Sedlescombe Rangers while the 2nd team are away to St.Leonards at the William Parker School with both matches K.O. 2p.m.
