Robertsbridge Archaeological Society – would like to thank everyone that attended the recent talk by Clive Mayhew on `Robertsbridge 1915`. This raised £168.00 and out of this £85.00 has been sent to St Michaels Hospice and the remainder to the Beadle History Award fund, which is used to encourage an interest in History in local school children.

Thanks: are sent to all friends and relatives of Rita and Martyn Lawrence for helping out whilst Rita spent some time in hospital recently. It was their 40th Anniversary last weekend so good wishes are sent to them and hope they stay well.

St Michaels Hospice: scratch cards are available for just £1 from the Floral Boutique. You could win up to £1000 for just a pound, and help out a local charity in the process.

Ruth Wagon: sadly passed away back in August. She was a well-known and well-loved person in the village of Robertsbridge and has been sadly missed by her family and friends. To celebrate her life there is to be a Memorial Service held on Sunday 1st November at St Mary’s Church, Salehurst at 2.30pm. It is hoped that many of her friends will attend to remember her.

FOOTBALL: The Bridge 1st team hosted Hollington United in the Premier Division of the Macron East Sussex Football League and were a goal down after the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 1st minute and slack defending saw Hollington double their lead on 10 minutes. The Bridge suddenly woke up and pulled a goal back when Guy Ballard headed home on the quarter hour mark and the same player levelled the scores 5 minutes later with a tap in to go into the break. The second period started like the first with the Bridge allowing the visitors to strike twice in the 60th and 65th minutes but we could have pulled a goal back on 80 minutes when we were awarded a penalty but Ballard’ kick went over the bar and just 5 minutes from the end Hollington made it 5-2. Man of the match was Adam Hardy. The 2nd team travelled the short distance to Battle Baptists III for a Divisiopn 5 match and were caught napping after 6 minutes when we allowed the home striker too much room however we levelled on 15 minutes when a goalmouth scramble saw Dan Goodsell slot home. The rest of the first period saw both teams have chances. The halftime team talk by manager Darren Poole saw a better performance by the Bridge and the reward came after 70 minutes when good work by man of the match Colin Eade found Matt Winchester who struck from ten yards to give the Bridge all three points. Tomorrow the 1st team are without a game but the 2nd team are at home to F.C.Westridge in the 1st Round of the Hastings F.A. Lower Divisions Cup K.O. 2.30p.m. The next fund-raising is a ‘Poker Night’ at Robertsbridge Club on Saturday 31st October 2015 at 7.30p.m. Entrance is £5 per person and there will be a raffle as well.
