Special event at the Ostrich: next Thursday 17th September at 7.30pm. Art lovers should go along to this evening next week with Local Historian, Paul Donovan, sharing his knowledge of The Cranbrook Colony. This was a group of Artists who settled in Cranbrook from 1854 and painted typical scenes of rural life in Victorian times. From a studio in the High Street the Cranbrook Colony encouraged a school of artists, which included the likes of Frederick Hardy, Thomas Webster and many more. The artists and their families formed strong bonds and were active in the local community, playing a philanthropic role in Cranbrook.

War talk: Saturday 19th September at Robertsbridge Hall there is to be a talk by Clive Mayhew about Robertsbridge in the Great War. The effect it had on those that were left behind, and those that had to go and fight. Tickets are available for this evening from the Floral Boutique and Judges Bakery at £6.00

Auction of Promises: is on Saturday 19th September being held at Vinehall School. This event is to raise funds for St Mary’s Church, Salehurst. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

FOOTBALL: The Bridge 1st team travelled to Sedlescombe Rangers for their first match in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division campaign and were a goal down inside 7 minutes but man of the match Guy Ballard equalised a minute later from the penalty spot. The Bridge were inspired and a few good shots went wide before Ballard got his second after good work from Chris Phillips on 22 minutes. Five minutes from the break the hosts levelled. A minute into the second half The Bridge took the lead through Howard Atkinson but again poor defending let the host back on level terms on 55 minutes and Sedlescombe Rangers pushed further forward and their pressure told as they took the lead after 70 minutes and could have gone further in front if not for a good save from Bridge keeper Grant Lewis five minutes from the end but they held on for the points. The Bridge 2nd team travelled to Sedlescombe Rangers III in Division 5 and earned a point thanks to a brace from man of the match Ben Thorpe however we should have taken all three points if we had taken our chances. Tomorrow the 1st team are at home to Battle Baptists while the 2nd team are away to F.C.Westridge with both matches K.O. 3p.m.

STOOLBAL : Our Ladies Tournament went ahead despite two teams dropping out on Saturday and one team not turning up. We played Icklesham in our first match and an unbroken partnership of 123 between Sarah Clark[76n.o.] and Abigail Fifield[38n.o.] gave us a good total to defend. Icklesham lost opener Shona[7] to some good fielding to run her out and then Heidi[34] was also run out with the score on 94 but Rachel[80n.o.] and Tracey[10n.o.] saw them win by 19 runs. Our second match was against defending champions Pett who batted first and an opening partnership of 49 between Anya[43n.o.] and Cole[11] was broken when Di Kitson[1-21] bowled Cole which bought in Nikki[92n.o.] to take their total to 148. Lisa Fifield[1] was run out on the second ball and then young Callum[0] was bowled on the fourth ball and when Charlie Apps[6] was run out we were on 19-3 but Lou Taylor[35n.o.] and Di[27n.o.] stopped the rot with an unbroken partnership of 66 to take us to 85-3. Pett beat Icklesham in the last match to retain the shield on a day where all the teams played in a good spirit and provided some excellent entertainment. Sunday[13th] is Icklesham Ladies Tournament at 10.30a.m.
