Robertsbridge

Archaeological Society: the next meeting is tonight at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 7.30pm. The talk this evening is by Clive Mayhew and is `Robertsbridge 1914`.

Bonfire Society: It has arrived, Robertsbridge Bonfire Night tomorrow 15th November. This is 24th year of our event and takes a lot of time and hard work to make it possible. If you would like to help with marshalling the Marshals meeting is this evening 14th November at Robertsbridge Club starting at 8pm. To be a collector just turn up after 6pm tomorrow evening at the door of Robertsbridge Club and pick up and sign for a collecting box. Your help is needed to make a good street collection total to help local groups. The Guy Competition is sponsored by the Floral Boutique and has a cash prize of £20. If you have a Guy please take him to the Recreation Ground before 1pm tomorrow as judging takes place at 1.10pm. A reminder that there is a road closure in place between 6pm – 10pm through the High Street and Station Road and George Hill. Please do not park in these areas, as this is the route of the procession. Programmes are available in the village at just 30p, which will give you all the information and times that you will need. Please listen to the marshals and adhere to what they ask of you, do not pick up spent torches, as the torch carts will follow the procession and remove them. No fireworks to be discharged in the Street as this is an offence and please keep children back when procession comes past as they may be frightened by the noise and crowds. This obviously applies to your pets too, please keep them safe before leaving home as a dog was found wandering around in Rye Harbour last week and a neighbour took him in. Having said all this, please enjoy your evening and stay safe and keep your fingers crossed for reasonable weather.

St. Mary’s Church: On Sunday 16th November there will be Holy Communion at 9am in the Mission Room in Fair Lane. At 11am there will be Sung Eucharist at St. Mary’s in Salehurst. Reverend Christopher Channer will be taking both services. Sunday Club will not meet this week but will be held in St. Mary’s Vestry during the 11am service next week 23rd. Children aged between 3-10 years are very welcome.

Bank Closure: On Thursday 20th November the village Nat West will be closing its doors for the last time. The alternatives we have now are to do online banking, use the post office for paying bills, withdraw cash or check your balances, or go to Battle. Again I do sometimes feel at a disadvantage by living in the country.

Whist Drive: the next evening of Whist is on Thursday 20th November at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 7pm. Feel free to go along and join in, as a warm welcome will await you.

Future Dates for your diary: Poker Night at Robertsbridge Club 22nd November, Scouts Bingo Night Friday 28th November, next film Night Thursday 4th December with `Belle`, Christmas Capers on Friday December 5th, details to follow nearer the date.
