Travelling Trends: Salehurst School are holding a Travelling Trends Fashion Show on Saturday 27th September at Ropbertsbridge Hall. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. This event is open to everyone in the village and local area and is raising funds for the Primary School.

Age Concern: This group holds a meeting every Monday except Bank Holidays at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 10am. The AGM is to take place on Monday 22nd September at 1.30pm at the hall and everyone is welcome to attend. The search is still going on for a new chairman, so if you have a few hours to spare and would like to help this group grow please pop in on a Monday for a chat or attend the AGM. New members are also invited to stop by for a cuppa or longer if desired. All seniors are made very welcome at this friendly group.

Village Music: On Sunday 14th September the Salehurst Halt present `Big Blue` between 5pm – 8pm. On Sunday 28th September the band `Lumpy and the Lumpettes` are holding a Memorial Gig in memory of Pete Thompsett a very much-loved member of the band and great friend to many. This is being held at Robertsbridge Club with doors opening at 3pm. This will be a very popular afternoon so please put the date in your diary.

Robertsbridge Bonfire Society: the next meeting is on Thursday 18th September at Robertsbridge Club at 8pm. Time is fast approaching when the hard work starts to get our bonfire night under way. If you are a member please try and attend, as now is the time to put yourself forward for all the jobs. The call will also soon be going out for volunteer marshals and collectors, so if you think you might like to help this year be ready for the call.

STOOLBALL: The Mixed team’s season finished on a high at home to Crowhurst last Thursday[4th]. The visitors lost their first wicket on the second ball of Abigial Fifield’[1-11] over and then the second wicket went down with just 18 runs on the board as JJ Boast held onto a catch from Keith Apps’[1-8] bowling to dismiss Tracey[13]. A third wicket partnership of 19 between Tony[10] and Sarah[6] was broken when Ian Kitson took a catch to dismiss Sarah while Tony was run out six balls later in Richard Apps’[1-8] over. Juliette[4] was run out with the score on 38-5 which brought Jason[39] into the fray and he scored freely although he was dropped a couple of times but his partnership of 22 with Natalie[2] was broken when she was bowled by Graham Clark[1-18]. Richard[22] joined Jason for an over before Jason was brilliantly caught by young Charlie Apps from Penny Clark’[1-15] bowling and young Marcus[5n.o.] came in for the last over which saw Richard caught low down by Keith from Ian’[1-18] bowling as Crowhurst finished their 8 overs on 109-8. The reply was slow with JJ[18] being run out with 23 on the board and two balls later Sophie Turner[2] was caught while Keith[3] was also caught with the score on 38-3. Sarah Clark[30n.o.] and Richard[48] shared a partnership of 69 before Richard was caught which saw Ian[6n.o.] join Sarah to end the innings on 120-4 and an 11 run victory. Sunday[7th] was our Ladies Tournament with five teams competing a round robin format. Brightling were our first opponents with Lisa Fifield[1-12] taking the wicket of Sandra first ball aided by a catch from Di Kitson while Hannah[4] was run out but Glenis[22n.o.] steadied the innings. Leslie[6] was run out while Carolyn[16n.o.] took the total to 58-3. Sarah Farthers[34n.o.] and Sarah Clark[11] put on 27 before Sarah Clark was bowled which saw Sophie[17n.o.] join Sarah Farthers to take us to a 19 run win. Abigail Fifield was run out on the first ball against Hooe and then Sophie[2], Mel Mackay[6] both went the same way and after the first over we were on 12-3 but Penny Clark[16n.o.] and Lisa[17n.o.] got us to 47-3. Hooe lost their first wicket to a run out and when Abigail Fifield[2-9] took a catch from her own bowling Hooe were struggling on 16-3 but wayward bowling let them win by 14 runs. Icklesham were next and some good fielding led to two run out’s in the second over and a wicket for Mel[1-17] saw Icklesham reach 71-3 and in reply we started well with Mel[21] and Penny[26] putting on 34 before Mel was run out. Lisa[10] was bowled and then Penny was run out which left Di[3n.o.] and Sarah Farthers[4n.o.] to finish the innings on 68-3 and a 3 run defeat. Our final match was against Pett with Lisa being bowled first ball and Di[2] getting run out with just 12 on the board. Sarah Farthers[8] was caught as was Sophie[14] which left Sarah Clark[21n.o.] and Abigail[0n.o.] to finish the innings on 55-4. A run out in the first over and a catch for Mel from Abigail’[1-14] bowling saw Pett on 23-2 but we failed to take another wicket as Pett finished on 72-2 to win the tournament with Icklesham the runners-up.

FOOTBALL: We kicked off the season with the 1st team at Sedlescombe Rangers on a hot day both sides had first half chances but shots from Harley Discala and Chris Phillips went wide while at the other end keeper Grant Lewis kept us in the game with some point blank saves however 10 minutes into the second half the deadlock was broken when we had a corner which was headed away by the Rangers defence and a through ball into our half gave their striker an easy goal as he lobbed the advancing Lewis. We pushed for an equaliser and a great through ball by man of the match Paul Barnes sent Phillips away but his shot went just over the bar. Poor defending again led to Rangers’ second on 70 minutes but we lacked fire power as Rangers took all three points. The 2nd team played at Bexhill Road against Sedlescombe Rangers III on a poorly maintained pitch with long grass making passing difficult however we pressured Rangers early on and this led to Ben Thorpe opening the scoring after 22 minutes and just 8 minutes later he scored his second with a header while Rangers hit back just before the break. Tom Ripley scored on 75 minutes but 3 minutes later Rangers struck back but victory was sealed when Ripley got his second on 84 minutes. Tomorrow the 1st team are away to Peche Hill Select at Tilekiln while the 2nd team are at home to Hawkhurst United II with both matches K.O. 3p.m.
