STOOLBALL: The Ladies played at Icklesham last Monday[18th] with a very young side we started badly with Sophie Turner was caught for a duck off the second ball and then Charlie Apps[3] was run out with the score at 9-2. Christina[5] was cruelly run out and soon after Abigail Fifield[10] went the same way. Sarah Clark[16] was joined by her daughter Ali[1] before Ali was bowled which bought debutant Callum Apps[14] into the fray and his partnership of 17 was broken when Sarah was caught and when Melinda Makcay[4] was bowled we were on 56-7. Lisa Fifield[11n.o.] joined Callum to put on 17 before Callum was bowled and then Emma Turner[4n.o.] came in to see out the 10 overs with 84-9. Our young side bowled well with the hosts struggling to get going and it was Sophie[1-7], aided by a catch from Sarah, who broke the opening partnership and then good fielding led to a run out leaving the hosts on 50-2. Charlie[1-12] took the next wicket helped by a catch from Melinda but the hosts finally ended on 100-3. On Tuesday[19th] the Mixed team hosted Brightling in an 8 over match and the visitors were soon in trouble losing their first wicket to Abigail[1-33] aided by a catch from Sarah in the first over and when Graham Clark[1-7] took the second wicket, as Keith Apps held onto a catch, they were on 12-2 but Chris ‘ Chiffer’ Hermitage steadied the innings with a solid 22 however two wickets in Josh Lewis’[1-8] over, a catch from skipper Richard Apps and a run out, saw the visitors on 40-4. Sarah Hermitage[17n.o.] stayed around after Chiffer was caught by Josh from Sarah’[1-12] over while Richard[1-14] took the 6th wicket as Brightling ended on 105-6. Our reply was slow with both openers Keith Apps[6] and Sophie Turner[5] going with just 36 on the board but a third wicket partnership of 42 between Josh[43] and Abigail[5] was broken when both went with 80 on the board. Richard[12n.o.] and Sarah[19n.o.] took us to victory and they retired to give Jem Ahsam[3], Charlie Apps[1n.o.] and Graham[1n.o.] to see the innings out on 125-5. This Sunday[31st] is Icklesham Ladies Tournament at 11a.m. while on Thursday 4th September the Mixed are at home to Crashburnham @ 6.30p.m. The final tournament of the season is our Ladies on Sunday 7th September @ 10.30a.m. at the Cricket Ground.
