Last Saturday at Robertsbridge Club saw Nic Murphy Breslin and Louise Berwick put on an event raising funds for the Alzheimers Society and Robertsbridge Bonfire Society. A total of over £160.00 was raised for each Society, which was a brilliant amount considering there were other events on in the village. They would like to thank everyone that was involved and supported them in this event.

Tonight Friday 2nd May is the Wine Tasting evening at Robertsbridge Hall hosting fines wines from Carr Taylor to sample. Ring 880457 for ticket availability. This event is on between 7.30pm – 10pm.

Tomorrow Saturday 3rd May is the monthly Village Market held at Robertsbridge Hall from 10am – 12 noon. There will be many stalls to offer you fresh produce, home made products, bread, fresh foods and lots of craft stalls. There are also light refreshments available so the best place to catch up with your friends.

Robertsbridge Club will be rocking tomorrow night 3rd May with music by Suspect. This is back by popular demand and looks like it could be a good start to the bank Holiday weekend. Not only is it good music but also there will be drink promotions on certain drinks for the night so why not go along to see what’s on offer.

Changing the pace a little on Thursday 8th May the newest Club starting in the village is the Jazz Club at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 8pm.

Entrance is £8 and is payable on the door. Food and drink will also be available. The Ted Beaumont Trio will be playing with Special Guest Mike Hext on the Trombone. For any further details you can go to www.robertsbridgejazzclub.com or find it on Facebook or even as everyone used to, ring 880274.

Another plea on behalf of Robertsbridge Bonfire Society. Donations are needed for the Auction on Friday 30th May at Robertsbridge Club. If you have anything to offer please either ring Pete on 880468 or take it in to Sandie at the Floral Boutique. This is one of the main money makers for the year and as most costs have risen this year we all need to help out, no matter how big or small or even if you are interested in putting on an event.

Please remember remember the night in November needs many more coins in the pot.

Football : The 2nd team finished their season on Easter Monday at home to The J.C.Tackleway II in Division 6 of the ADA East Sussex Football League. The game was just 2 minutes old when a lapse in defence allowed the visitors to take an early lead and The Bridge responded well but all their shots went wide until the 35th minute when a Lewis Baker effort was well saved by the visitors keeper. The second period saw a penalty appeal for The Bridge turned down after 55 minutes which gave Tackleway a break away to double their lead. Man of the match Wayne Mewett marshalled the defence for the rest of the half and several more appeal’s for a penalty went begging as The Bridge finally finished their season mid table. The 1st team finished their season in the Premier Division knowing that victory against Peche Hill Select would give them third place. The first half was a crazy affair with the Bridge opening the scoring through Guy Ballard after 9 minutes and the visitors equalising on 25 minutes from the spot. Phil Green restored the Bridge with a deflected shot after 35 minutes and a minute before the break he netted his second after good work from man of the match Dominic Whittaker however the visitors struck in injury time to go into the break with the Bridge leading 3-2. The second period was eventfull for many reasons with the visitors midfielder being booked on 63 minutes and from the subsequent free kick Green’ shot hit the bar and went to safety then Ballard had a goal disallowed after 67 minutes but 2 minutes later he scored his second but again a lapse in the Bridge defence allowed the visitors back into the game but that was the start of a mad last twenty minutes with Ballard hitting his hat-trick on 77 minutes and then after 83 minutes he scored from the spot to make it 6-3 and when Bradley Lyne made it 7-3 after 85 minutes the visitors lost control and with two players being sent off in the final minutes the Bridge celebrated their third place finish.

Charity Cup : The Finals of the local Robertsbridge Charity Cup Competition, sponsored by Speedtrace Builders Ltd., will start with the Junior Cup on Tuesday 6th May 2014 when F.C.Bexhill will play Hawkhurst United then on Wednesday 7th May 2014 the Intermediate Cup will be between Ninfield United and Rock-a-Nore with both matches at Robertsbridge Recreation K.O. 6.30p.m. Entrance fee is £2 for Adults and £1 for O.A.P’s and children. All monies raised goes to local charities including The Guides & Brownies, Cubs & Scouts, Children Services so please come and support this local competition.

Darts : Both our Pushpenny Pairs players lost in the semi-finals but Michael Stone got through to the final of the singles. A date for your diary is Sunday 4th May 2014 when we will be holding the very popular Open Pairs Darts Knockout at Robertsbridge Club from 7.30p.m. Entry is £1 and there will be a raffle. This is open to all and very good fun whether you play darts or not, just come along and enjoy the evening.

Stoolball : We start our season on Tuesday 6th May 2014 with a Mixed match at Ashburnham starting at 6.30p.m. and then the Ladies are away to Catsfield on Thursday 8th May at 6.45p.m.
